At the ’62nd NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen’, it was revealed that the highest viewership rating was recorded during Girls’ Generation’s performance. The girls came on as the fifth artists to perform during the second half of the most prestigious year-end music show in Japan.
According to result from Japan Video Research, the average viewership rating for the first part of the ’62nd NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen’ was 35.2% but when Korean artists made their appearances during the second part, the average viewership rating went up to 41.6%. Particularly during Girls’ Generation’s ‘Genie’, the rating soared to 44.7%, which was the highest throughout the broadcast.
Meanwhile, December 31st, 2011 marked the first appearance for both Girls’ Generation and Kara. For TVXQ, it was their third appearance. ‘Kouhaku Uta Gassen’ recorded average viewership rating of more than 50% every year since its first broadcast in 1951. Meanwhile, among all the performing artists, 2-member TVXQ topped the popularity poll after garnering 49.7% from the total votes.
